e have only been in
existence for six months
in our new colours, but it
certainly doesn’t seem like it. We have enjoyed an incredible
first six months since our launch in January, with national track championship winners, more than 150
podiums, course records and team titles.
The ‘black and yellow,’ as we have become known, has in a very short time become a force to be reckoned with,
and we have a collection of some of the best Proudly South African track, road and trail athletes in South Africa.
On our launch weekend alone, we provided podium finishers in every major road race in South Africa, and that
stretched all the way from Central Gauteng Athletics track league meetings to popular road races nationally.
It is astounding how the team keeps producing superb performances at the top level every weekend, and the
immense investment of time and money that Murray & Roberts is ploughing into the sport is bearing fruit.
The Vorentoe Running Academy athletes are also proving that if the investment, support and infrastructure are
in place, there is an abundance of talent in our country, and there is thus no reason for us not to be a force
in South African athletics. This Auckland Park-based team of talented young runners has produced multiple
champions over the last few years, and we look forward to what they will be able to deliver in time to come.
Our club is small compared to some of the other corporate clubs, but we prefer it that way. Our members –
elite, semi-elite and family members alike – all know each other and are extremely supportive of each other’s
performances. Our team gives us great pride, and this is truly a club we can call home.
