ADVERTORIAL JOZI’s Most Eagerly Awaited Triathlon in Years! Up-country triathletes have been forced to travel to their favourite races for many years, but now they have the MiWaylife JHB ULTRA right on their doorstep. Taking place on 2 December at the Cradle Moon Game Lodge, the Ultra Series has finally come ‘home’ and will offer the up-country athletes a sleep in their own beds the night before race day! T he MiWaylife Ultra Series is SA’s only home-grown national triathlon series and the biggest 70.3 distance series in the country, with events taking place in Cape Town, Sun City, Durban and now Johannesburg. The new addition in Gauteng will be staged on Sunday 2 December in The Cradle area, which is a second home to many triathletes living above the Vaal River, who will know this new race route like the back of their hands. No surprise then that competitors from all over Gauteng are so excited about this new event, as it gives them an opportunity to race in their proverbial backyard and in their training grounds. Entries are open, but places are filling up fast. There will be a limit on entries to allow athletes to have a great race experience without clutter and congestion on the bike and run routes. Event organisers, B-Active Events, are thus requesting that athletes enter soon – and note that entries will close on 7 November, or earlier if full. Unique SA Series The MiWaylife Ultra Series is different to other long-distance triathlons across SA, as it offers both Ultra and Sprint distance races. The Sprint race is currently the only national Sprint series in South Africa and gives budding athletes an exciting entry-level event to start off on. The Ultra distance is becoming increasingly popular, with more and more challengers taking to the long-distance starting line. Sprint competitors will do a 600m swim/20km cycle/5km run combination, while the Ultra will cover 1.9km swim/90km cycle/21km run. There are also team entries available for the family teams, friends and corporates that want to get involved, but only want to do one of the three disciplines. The swim will take place inside the resort venue confines at the Cradle Moon. Thereafter, the bike leg will head out onto the popular Cradle cycle route, with a slight deviation to ensure that there is minimal cross-over between competitors and those out for a casual training ride. The Sprint race is due to start at 7:30am, with the Ultra following at 8am, which should see most of these social cyclists already off the road, sipping on their coffee, by the time the event gets underway. The course for the swim is ‘flat,’ the cycle route will be fairly undulating. For the regulars who train in this area week-in and week-out, this will definitely not be a problem. The run will consist of 80% tar with a small 3km trail section, ensuring a traffic-free run leg with some great wildlife scenery. Sign Up Today!
