a time of 48:50, even volunteering weekly to make sure that I didn’t
miss a week.
At the beginning of 2017 that same friend encouraged me to join a club
(Midas Hi-Performance) and run my first 10km at the Sasolburg Marathon.
The time for my first 10km was 1:45. I ended 2017 on a high of 39:32 for
5km and 1:25 for 10km. Then in 2018 I decided to dedicate all my races to
raise awareness and funds for Tambo Baby Pack Network, which provides
starter packs to mothers with newborn babies at the Tambo Memorial
Hospital. The organisation is in desperate need of new and pre-loved
newborn baby clothing, blankets, disposable nappies, toiletries, etc,
and I registered on the
doit4charity website and
hoped I would get support.

August 2016, a cold minus-4 and I took my first step on a journey
to love running. I was 52 years old, overweight, pre-diabetic, pre-
osteoporosis, depressed, with a wounded soul, but in steps my
neighbour Amanda encouraged me to take part in our local 5km
parkrun at Heron Banks. I eventually did and managed to walk the 5km
in a time of 59:49. I went back week after week and ended the year on This mag was made for
