ADVERTORIAL We’ll give you a HeadStart at the Cape Town Marathon HeadStart Kids will make you see, eat and even build better, and then dance your way to the finish line at the 2018 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon! “At the Expo we will provide free eye assessments by Mellins Optometrist, just like we do for the kids that we influence every day. Also, kids of all ages can come and enjoy playing LEGO at our kids’ corner, and may even win prizes for the best creation. We will also astound your taste buds with our food partners’ offering, including sugar-free and dairy-free Nova Chocolates, and FutureLife products,” says Lilly. A s a non-profit organisation that focuses a three-pronged approach on early childhood development throughout SA, HeadStart Kids (HSK) is an official charity organisation of the 2018 edition of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. That means you can look out for us both at the pre-race Expo and then along the route on race day. “HSK’s water point on the corner of Strand and Bree near Tsogo Sun’s SunSquare Cape Town City Bowl Hotel, will feature twice on the route, at the nine-kay mark and again with slightly more than two to go, when you really need a lift… and are we only going to lift you!” says HSK founder Lily Geerdts “We will have world champion hip-hop dancers, entertaining, inspiring, cajoling and pushing you all the way to the finish. We are also partnering with the Tsogo Sun team at our water point, and they too will be out in force to make sure that you are hydrated, well fed and mentally ready to tackle the classic marathon distance. Meanwhile, parents who are running on the day can bring their kids to spend the morning with us in our LEGO Kids’ Corner, where they will be supervised and looked after while you run.” Expo Excitement However, before you run, we invite you to come and say hello to the HSK team at our stand at the Expo and find out what we do for the children of South Africa. We influence almost 10,000 children every day throughout the country and your help will increase that number. 22 ISSUE 110 SEPTEMBER 2018 / www.modernathlete.co.za “Meanwhile, the Macah Foundation has also partnered with HSK, as their focus is the first one thousand days of a child’s life, and this then creates a complete holistic approach for us to ensure that we shape the young to take their rightful place as productive, successful citizens of our beautiful country,” concludes Lily. (Macah stands for Mother and Child Academic Hospital.) Giving Still More Then after the race, Care for Education, the NPO partner of the LEGO Foundation, will be handing over charity boxes containing LEGO sets to the value of R250,000 to Alderman JP Smit of the City of Cape Town for the upliftment of early child development (ECD) centres in city. So come join us to create the most ‘gees’ at this year’s race, so that we can give the future children of SA a HeadStart!
