Final Countdown The Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon and Half Marathon will be run on Easter Saturday, 31 March. Here’s all the latest news from the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon. FINAL NOTES ON ENTRIES With the 2018 edition of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon (OMTOM) just around the corner, here’s what you need to know as you count down to race day: • The OMTOM entry portal will close at 5pm on 28 February, and no further changes or substitutions can be made thereafter. It is vital that you upload your qualifying marathon results (for Ultra runners) and any other information still outstanding. • Running Clubs will have an opportunity to log into the OMTOM’s entry portal between 1 and 6 March, to verify their members’ 2018 club license details. Runners whose details are not uploaded by 28 February and verified by 6 March will forfeit their entry. • Your Race Number and Start Group will be sent to you via email and SMS by the middle of March. • Online entries for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Fun Runs close on 28 February, but limited entries will also be available at the OMTOM Expo on 28 and 29 March, as well as on the UCT Sports Field on 30 March. Held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on the Cape Town Foreshore, the OMTOM Expo is an exciting show with exhibitors ranging from top sporting brands, apparel and supplements, to outdoor adventure sports and sporting tours. It is also the only place where OMTOM participants can collect their registration packs! Expo Dates and Times • • • Wednesday, 28 March 2018: 10am – 7pm Thursday, 29 March 2018: 10am – 7pm Friday, 30 April 2018: 9am – 5pm TACKLING THE WATER CRISIS With the City of Cape Town and parts of the Western Cape in the midst of a severe drought, the OMTOM organisers have been working around the clock to ensure the 49th edition of the world’s most beautiful marathon is fully aligned with plans to avoid Day Zero. Events like the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon are critical to the region’s economy, with the OMTOM alone generating over R675 million, creating thousands of jobs and raising more than R3.5 million for the charities that use the OMTOM as a fundraising platform every year. The event has a comprehensive action plan in place, and a number of water-saving and alternative water-sourcing initiatives are being implemented to eliminate potable water usage. • No municipal water will be used at any of the OMTOM events, as water for race day has been sourced from the Newlands Spring. • Runners can fill up their hydration packs and bottles at the start of the race, while refill stations for hydration packs will be positioned along the route, in support of the #GOGREEN campaign to reduce plastic and littering. • There will be no shower facilities at the finish venue, and all taps will be closed. • All chemical toilets brought to the various OMTOM sites will use only certified recycled water. Please remain conscious of the severe drought and contribute to the water- saving efforts where you can. Every drop counts!
