he prestigious Dis-Chem Half Marathon hosted by Bedfordview
Athletics was run on Sunday 14 January in Johannesburg, with 6500
athletes raring to go in the 21km main event, and nearly 2000 more lining
up for the 5km Centrum Dash.
With generous prize money up for grabs, the race up front saw David Manja win in a time of 1:08:43, with Irvette van Zyl first woman home in 1:18:36. Both
run for the Nedbank club. Meanwhile, many entrants were lucky enough to win great spot prizes ranging from clothing, accessories, sports massage treatments and vouchers.
The organisers made a commitment to ensure that the race had a minimum impact on the environment, hence promoting a #runclean policy and ensuring there were
sufficient Garbie Bins along the route, while Funky Bins Waste Management collected 16 bulk bags of plastic water sachets, 24 bags of cardboard and 10 bags of plastic
bottles for recycling. Miss Earth 2017/18 Irini Moutzouris , who was present at the race, added to the sentiment of the race committee with her message, “As runners you
