Think before you throw - #runclean M odern Athlete’s #runclean campaign calls on all runners to stop littering during races, because the mess left behind by runners dropping water sachets or cups in the road has become one of the most prominent talking points in South African running circles. APPLY FOR FREE BINS FOR YOUR EVENT While many runners have already stopped littering, some continue to just toss their used sachets on the road, or worse, far from the road, even when dustbins are provided along the route! And it’s so easy to carry an empty used sachet for a kay or two until the next water table or to a dustbin, or putting it in a pocket or your waistband and discarding it at the finish. It will not weigh you down or slow you down, and there really is no excuse for littering! To qualify for the free bins, events must put the #runclean and Garbie logos on their entry form and race/club website, and must promote the #runclean message on all their platforms as well as at their event. We therefore suggest events apply for bins well in advance, so that requests can be processed in time and the bins delivered, and so that organisers and clubs can meet the simple requirements as their part of the deal. Further to this, as part of the #runclean campaign, the Garbie brand (East Rand Plastics) is providing FREE fold-up cardboard bins and plastic bin liners to registered #runclean events, and any running or walking event held in South Africa can register via the link on www.facebook.com/runclean, or go to http://modernathlete.co.za/bf.php?fid=287. Once an event is registered and approved, Garbie will arrange the delivery of the bins, liners and bags, all free of charge, and Modern Athlete will promote the event through our various platforms. Share your #runclean efforts or experiences at www.facebook.com/runclean or mail to [email protected]. GARBIE Supports Runners… So support the company that is helping us to #runclean I n conjunction with Modern Athlete’s #runclean campaign, GARBIE from East Rand Plastics is providing free fold-up cardboard bins and plastic bin liners to races that register as a #runclean event and make an effort to do something about the plastic litter being left on the roads by runners.
