The Russian T-34 medium tank is
legendary – its appearance on the Eastern
Front in late 1940 made all of the standard
production Panzer III and IV tanks obsolete
overnight, and instigated the design of the
equally-legendary Panther.
Hobby Boss came on the scene a few
years ago and currently cover all facets of
scale modeling, aircraft, armor, ships, and
in a variety of scales. Although they are
under the radar of most modelers, they’ve
released an impressive lineup of 1/48th
scale armor models, including a series of
T-34 kits.

I happened upon a 1/48th scale “blown
up” T-34 engine section from Verlinden
Productions. I’ve always wanted to do a
completely destroyed vehicle, but knew
I would need a donor kit to provide the
other components, so I ordered the Hobby
Boss T-34/76 Model 43, Factory 112. The
price was very reasonable compared to
other kits in this scale, but it was opening
the box that really sealed the deal as far
as I was concerned.
