Earth Activist is a trend with a significant fo-
cus on content and sustainability and other
values are at its core. This means that we will
see new, sustainable textiles. As an example,
research is being done to see if it is possible
to produce textiles by utilizing leftover materi-
als from the production of pineapples. We’re
also seeing renewed interest in traditional
crafted textiles and the whole waste situation.
How can we optimize production to avoid or
limit waste? And how can we become better
at reusing fabrics?
The signal value in these sustainability consi-
derations are mirrored aesthetically, where a
second-hand look is cultivated by the use of
patches, patchwork and a combination of old
and new. The style is supposed to look a bit
haphazard and imperfect.
The activist inspiration can also be seen in
styles inspired by boiler suits and in elements
such as large pockets. Different coatings are
also used to provide different functionality. In-
fluences from hiking and trekking can also be
found in parts of the design.

Quilt in all shapes and sizes are used in many
designs as whole styles, as part of an item, or
as details.
References to nature and folklore are seen in
patterns and “imperfect” looks made to look
handmade – we also see looks that actually
are handmade for instance with various fair
trade setups.
Inspiration from primitive peoples can be
seen in styles with a cape or poncho look, and
the must-have accessory this winter will be
oversized scarves.
