many people are deeply concerned about
the earth and the environment. When
asked in surveys we often respond with
pro-en-vironment and sustainability-orien-
tated sentiments, a desire to reduce our air
travel and so on. In reality, however, there
is a discrepancy between our behavior and
our stated attitudes. There is no sound lo-
gic here, the trend expert starts off. Conse-
quently, she is not surprised to witness an
array of different trends when it comes to
colours, styles and materials.
Anja Bisgaard Gaede especially calls at-
tention to two opposing trends, the first of
which is characterized by subdued colours
and a strong focus on white and sand to-
nes. The second trend is packed with co-

lours, a relaxed holiday feel and retro vibes.
Alongside the two main trends, there is
another direction aimed especially at the
younger audience, which draws inspiration
from digital worlds and physical sports
such as skateboarding and baseball. Both
sports are new additions to the Olympics
in Tokyo in 2020, and design inspiration is
drawn directly from these sports. For the
younger and more trend-based brands,
the sports-inspired summer fashion is
wild and eclectic, while the commercial
audience can expect a played down version
of some of the same elements. Olympic-
related symbols in the form of flags, num-
bered sport shirts and team names will fill
the fashion scene.
DUSTY PASTELS
Spring/Summer 2020 will bring a range of
toned down pastels such as lavender, coral,
orange and old rose - with a dusty, sun-
bleached look.
One of the new colours of the season is Pa-
stel Lavender, which is a mid-tone that mixes
pink and lavender. Bright petrol and dusty
mint are also essential colours in the sum-
mer of 2020. This is also true for Evening
Primrose.
But why do we need this exotic holiday at-
mosphere in our clothing?
- I guess that we yearn for something exo-
tic as a counterweight to our everyday lives.
