SOLID TAKES INSPIRATION FROM
JAPANESE DENIM CULTURE, CITY
STREETS AND SURF SPORT
Japanese denim tradition, urban jungle and the surfing culture of Miami provide
a world of inspiration in the new Solid collection for Spring 2016.
BY HELLE MATHIESEN
The design team at the Danish jeans brand
Solid has chosen the name Okinawa Blues to
describe one of their key trends for the new
spring season. With its white sandy beaches,
turquoise seas and spectacular coral reefs,
the Japanese archipelago of Okinawa in-
spires this season's denim theme, which is
also rooted in the Japanese denim tradition.
The result is a dusky look, where for instance
a washed-out indigo is teamed with muted
colours such as dark rose and pale bottle
green. This theme also features plenty of
styles in lighter shades of linen and sand.
The silhouette focuses on the classic
denim look with washed-out T-shirts and
sweatshirts, checked shirts in dusky col-
ours and textured knitwear with different
wash effects.
Printed T-shirts feature delicate line
drawings of Koi carps, combined with
symmetrical patterns from the batik tradition of Japan.

The materials for spring include textured
chambray, all-over prints with traditional
Japanese patterns, pale linen and suede.

The concrete ninja
lection for Spring 2016 has been named
Concrete Ninja. This represents an urban,
almost futuristic theme, which draws its
inspiration from a monochromatic street
universe mixed with a contemporary
sportswear look. Reflecting its pure, cleancut style, this theme centres on a colour
scale of white/grey/black, with white as
the dominant base colour. The materials
are heavily inspired by the world of sport,
as seen for instance in the smooth fabric
finishes, the use of mesh ]Z[
