orn from the streets of the slums, hip-hop dance, along with hip-hop music, is the core of hip hop. Opinions differ greatly on whether popping, krump and locking should also be included under the umbrella term of dance hip hop, not to mention how to label the types of hip hop taught aerobics in classrooms worldwide. While war rages on if you're old school or new choreography or freestyle, hip hop remains a vital dance form and diverse.
Since ancient times the body, dance and movement means that man were used to express feelings and emotions. Throughout history acquired various forms and functions. Accompanying social events such as birth, consecration of youth, marriage, death, or associated with religion, dance in different cultures, is present as a primary need of man. In the 70's in the South Bronx, New Cork, the youth of the Latino and African American community with a long history of poverty and marginalization, guided by the need to dance and not having access to dance studios developed a style dance in the streets. This dance was part of a lifestyle alternative to gangs and violence, giving them the possibility of establishing social bonds and express themselves in a creative and non-violent.
Unlike other dance forms most SD encourage creativity and individual originality. The dancers perform movements existing freely, improvising and creating new ones. Improvisation is the heart of the street dances that is why dance is constantly developing. Many SD include encounters or duels known as jamming. The Jamm are a casual type of show that takes place within the framework of a social dance. The dancers form a circle and take turns, alone or in pairs to show their skills while others watch and decide who is the winner.
