Carphone Warehouse The UK’ s biggest mobile phone retailer boasts the best value deal for a free Samsung Galaxy S III at £ 17. There are calls to upgrade on all major networks but MVNO Lycamobile offers real value to travellers, with a £ 29 tariff including unlimited UK and overseas calls. There is also a triple-play
Lap cats leap through the air in O2 stores as part of its‘ Be More Dog’ campaign( yes, that’ s right) deal from Samsung – a Galaxy Ace smartphone with a seven-inch Galaxy Tab and a Galaxy digital camera for £ 21 per month.
Phones4U P4U’ s recent 4G overtures in the press( 25 per cent of all new connections are 4G, it says) are embodied in high street house ads promising a service which is“ 4G ready, future-proofed for superfast speed”. The LTE charge is led by rock-star promo devices the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and iPhone 5, while the Deal of the Week instore slot goes to 3G-limited Nokia smartphone the Lumia 520 – for £ 11 a month on contract.
EE Britain’ s“ biggest, fastest network” champions the Samsung Galaxy S4 and its diminutive follow-up, the Mini, in its store campaigns. EE, currently Britain’ s only 4G mobile broadband network, has reduced its prices and upgraded its services considerably as it gets ready for competition this summer from O2 and Vodafone.
O2 Pictures of long-haired lap cats leaping through the air in stores and on outdoor billboards with the slogan
“ Be more dog” have landed. The campaign celebrates the“ inner dog” in all of us – because“ they never stop playing and exploring”. Cats featured in the campaign look bland and joyless in comparison, a little like the prominent store comms for a Samsung Galaxy S4, available for free from £ 37 a month on a two-year contract.
Tesco Phone Shop Tesco can’ t seem to grow out of its obsession with Ronnie Corbett and customer service with its“ There’ s nothing funny about” campaign, which refers to the supermarket MVNO’ s hardfought‘ Best Customer Service of any Network’ title, not to the diminutive comedian’ s post-Two Ronnies career. Meanwhile, a SIM-only deal on the Tesco network gets you 750 minutes, 5,000 texts and 2GB of data for £ 17.50.
Three Old-school value phone deals on parade, with £ 20 contract deals on mid-tier smartphones such as the Huawei Ascend P2, Sony Xperia T and Samsung Galaxy S III Mini. On prepay, there’ s a budget touchscreen in the Alcatel One 900 for under £ 50, the Nokia Lumia 520 for £ 115 and the Motorola RAZRi for £ 150.
Vodafone’ s high street comms get friendlier, with three smartphones for £ 75 or under
Virgin Virgin Media keeps up its TV and broadband tariffs as the lead proposition and pigeonholes mobile phone use as an exclusively student pursuit, offering unlimited £ 15 SIM-only deals on voice, text and web usage. No sign of any specific smartphone though in the stores Mediacells visited.
Vodafone As Vodafone records its first ever fall in annual revenues, its high street comms are less austere with a trio of prepay smartphones, including two Vodafone‘ Smart’ models, for £ 75 or under. In the highest contract tier is the 32MB Nokia Lumia 925 for £ 32 free on contract.
