2 . Mary Kathleen . Free camping is available at a ghost town located by the abandoned Mary Kathleen uranium mine . We camped on what used to be the general store while others parked up around us on vast slabs — great for level camping — or in the open grassy areas . Campfires , cows , and camels together with informative signs about the town ' s history make this an enjoyable , even entertaining campground . If you have a 4x4 , exploring the mine site and playing on some tracks is also a fun option .
3 . Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail near Aramac . Six hours of crazy sculptures popped up all over the place as we wound our way along the 200km circuit which is one of the world ' s largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions .
4 . Ram Park in Blackall is one of the best tours we have been on . Stuart , an old drover , is a real outback character . He has realised his dream of creating a working museum in Blackall , where his goal is to have every piece of machinery working . He ’ s done an incredible job and gives a fantastic tour — you really should watch our video ! His anecdotes are hilarious and , as he has grown up in the area , he shares lots of interesting and funny local stories .
From Camooweal , we drove the 2 hours and 45 minutes to Barkley Homestead , where we began our Northern Territory adventure !
Wycliffe Well , Devils Marbles , Alice Springs , Finke ( Apatula ), The East MacDonnell Ranges , including Trephina Gorge , Artlunga and Ruby Gap . Uluru , Kata Tjuta , Mereenie Loop , Kings Canyon and ... take a breath ... the West MacDonnell Ranges , Stuarts Well , Kulgera , Chambers Pillar and Lamberts Geographical Centre of Australia . We also filmed the Finke Desert Race and camped trackside .
NT HIGHLIGHTS 1 . Finke Desert Race — a 458 km off-road , multiterrain two-day race for bikes , cars , buggies and quad bikes through desert country from Alice Springs to the small and remote community of Aputula and back . We attended and filmed with two race teams and camped trackside the first night , and in Finke with the race teams the second night .
2 . Uluru Waterfalls – the heavens opened while we were at Uluru , resulting in spectacular waterfalls cascading over the side of the giant red rock . We ' ll never forget it ! The following day the sky was bluest of blue , and we rode our eMTB ’ s around the base of the rock — twice . Touristy yes , but it absolutely had to be done !
