PRESIDENT'S
REPORT
Dr. Bryan Rogoff - MOA President
"A New Day Dawns"
I begin this report with an announcement regarding an unexpected change within MOA leadership. After much consideration and careful deliberation, MOA President Andrew Morgenstern, OD, FAAO, submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors last month. Dr. Morgenstern has been, and continues to be, an integral and tireless advocate for our profession. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the MOA.
It is my honor as former President-Elect to assume the position of President. I only hope to be as effective a leader as my colleague, friend and predecessor, Dr. Morgenstern. As I embrace my new role with an overwhelming sense of optimism and vigor, I am reminded of an Eleanor Roosevelt quote - "With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts."
Here, I share with you some of my thoughts and aspirations about the new day that I see on the horizon. I ask you to do the same because the vision that shapes tomorrow and the future of Maryland optometry should not be just “mine,” but rather “ours” collectively.
Until I became an officer of this Association, I had no idea of the time commitment that is demanded of the volunteer Board and
leadership. I am in awe, and continue to be
inspired by the dedication and resolve of my colleagues. It is because of them, and our ever-growing grassroots network, that I say with confidence - a modernized Maryland scope of practice is about to become reality. Please read the column by Dr. Johnson (MOA 1st Vice President and KeyPerson) for more information about MOA past and present legislative efforts and take action to become involved.
Finally, with excitement, I am pleased to announce that MOA membership and industry partners continue to grow. We are currently developing new programs designed to improve the efficiency with which doctors learn and practice optometry. A great example is the new MOA online education portal where Maryland ODs can earn CE credits on demand from the comfort of home. As always, all MOA Programs are offered to members at no cost (or significantly discounted rates) as a show of our appreciation. More updates about these exciting new programs and other initiatives now in the works will be provided in my next report. Until then, I extend my sincere thanks to each and every MOA member and supporter. To my colleagues who are not members, please join today so our collective vision of a brighter tomorrow can be achieved.
