Helping You Navigate Healthcare Reform

Look Out for Time Sensitive Correspondence Regarding Credentialing From Aperature As recently reported by AOA First Look, doctors due to re-credential—or credential—should be alert for communications from a new national credential verification organization, Aperture Credentialing. Failure to respond to the request, which may look like spam mail, could result in you being dropped from health and vision plan networks you are currently on as a participating provider. Some plans include:

VSP/Cigna Breakup

Cigna has taken over the responsibility of contracting with optometrists and ophthalmologists for primary eye care services delivered to beneficiaries in certain markets. VSP will continue to contract with providers to provide Cigna customers routine eye exams and well eye care services. All providers, even those with an existing contract with Cigna are required to recredential. Packets were due on April 15 in order to avoid any coverage gap. If you are a Cigna provider and have not obtained a new agreement, contact them immediately. FYI…MOA has been made aware that Cigna is currently looking for new Maryland providers.

VSP News Announces New Materials Reimbursement Policy Effective July1, 2016

"To better align frame reimbursements with frame industry pricing, VSP is updating its frame materials reimbursement policy, effective July 1, 2016. Practices meeting the Marchon/Altair minimum sales threshold of $6,000 during the last twelve months will continue to receive 100% wholesale reimbursement. Practices not meeting the minimum threshold will receive 80% on all non-Marchon/Altair frames. This policy change accounts for discounts and rebates practices typically receive from frame manufacturers. Since Marchon and Altair are VSP Global companies, VSP can pass the additional savings back to practices. The policy change applies to Signature and Choice plans."

UPP Update

In response to federal and state lawsuits (including a civil case in Maryland filed by the Attorney General’s antitrust division) Johnson & Johnson Vision recently announced they plan to end their policy that sets a minimum price for contact lenses. Learn more about the recent J&J decision and/or the Maryland lawsuit.

Alphabet Soup That Matters: If you are a Meaningful Use Provider, READ THIS !

AOA registry “MORE” (Measures Outcomes Registry for Eyecare) has received the crucial “QCDR” (Qualified Clinical Data Registry) designation from “CMS” (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). Why does this matter? Now recognized by CMS, MORE will save enrolled doctors money and simplify PQRS (Physician Quality Reporting System), EHR (Electronic Health Record) Incentive Program and Value-based Payment Modifier reporting requirements. If you missed the Feb 26 enrollment deadline, there may still be time. Learn more about MORE and about participating EHR vendors. MORE is available to members at no cost. The fee for non-members is $1800 per year.
