F
or many this is the time for new beginnings filled with
vision boards and of course New Year resolutions. Looking
back on my own year, 2014 has been extremely good to me.
Despite the many setbacks I encountered, there were many,
many more successes (including MMIA Magazine). This year
as you contemplate the success and trials of 2014, consider
what you can make 2015 a year to remember. Here are 16
resolutions you should consider making in 2015:
1. Improved Health. It sounds cliché but it’s really important. Start by
making healthier food choices for the long run and not just for the
moment. No more diets.
2. Get Involved in your Community. Volunteer at a local shelter or start an organization of your own to give back.
3. Spend More Time with Family. Schedule regular breaks for adventure and fun with those who matter the most.
4. Follow-Through. Commit to completing at least 3 things on your “before I die” bucket list.
5. Do it Anyway. Be daring. Do something that scares the ish out of you at the thought of it, but will reward you
6. Pay It Forward. Do something really nice for a stranger and then quickly leave before they get the chance to thank
you. This happened to me once and was one of the most profound experiences of my life.
7. Just Say No. Say no to anything or anyone who doesn’t make you a better person.
8. Think Futuristic. Plan now for your future. If your finances are not in order and you’re reading this now, then
congratulations! You’ve been gifted with another opportunity to make it happen.
9. Get it Done. If you’ve been making the same resolutions year after year, then you’re in for the ride of your life. Stop
the excuses and focus on the how. Get it done by any means necessary.
10. Create Healthier Relationships. If your environment is toxic then take a good look at those around you. Be prepared
to make a few revisions.
11. End the Curse. Mother, father, sister, brother, husband, daughter, son or whatever....life is too short. Resolve your issues
and move forward.
12. Practice Gratitude. Learned this one from my girl Minista Jazz set aside a special time every day (3:33, 1:11, 4:44 etc)
and stop whatever you’re doing to give thanks for all of the little things in life.
13. Quiet Time. Take more time to reflect on where you are in life and where you re going. This will help you to identify the
areas of much needed changes.
14. Get Creative. Trade in your usual movie night for more artistic activities such as painting, sculpting, sewing, or any
other arts and crafts that makes you feel alive and youthful again.
15. Leave it in 2014. Don’t bring anything negative with you into 2015. Release it and keep it moving.
16. Let it Shine. Don’t throw shade on anyone else’s light and don t let anyone else dim yours. Be an example of what
can we can create when we work together and support each other genuinely.
