4.5 Yee Wai Ling (Yu Weiling)
The local attachment experience provides me with another
perspective towards the way we do things as well as how we look at things
in life. I am privilege to be attached to KidZania, an interactive indoor
theme and to Fernvale Gardens School (MINDS), with the aim to develop
their students’ physical, intellectual, emotional and social competencies,
believing that their students possess the capacity to learn and to develop
their potential to become contributing members of society.
I am impressed with KidZania during my first visit with my girl, the
experience they had brought to my girl through all the role-play activities.
My girl was disappointed during the first visit as she had not worked enough
to earn sufficient money for her to buy anything in the department store at
the end of the day. Besides, the experience of hers at the dentistry had in
KidZania had helped her overcame her fear of visiting the dentist. As a
mother, I am totally satisfied with the take-away based on the price I paid for
the entrance fee. However, from the sharing of the organisation, it is not a
rosy picture painted after all, the organisation does have its own challenges.
Mr Dannie, from the management team from KidZania shared on their
effort in building an open and supportive organisation culture. Management
made it a point to walk around the ‘city’ daily to provide support with their
presence, make small talks with the staff and is able to better understand the
challenges faced by the operational staff on the ground. The amount of
support the management team provides helps in building the trust among
the staff. One of the staff we interviewed shared on how much they
appreciated the management and the support they have rendered to them
on the ground. She shared her experience where her team met with a very
unreasonable parent who made a big fuss at her establishment as he was
unhappy with the arrangement made in the establishment. The management
quickly came down to support when they received the call from them. She
was so relieved at the point of time, the difficult parent was taken care by the
management and her team and they continued the activities in the
establishment with the participants. They are so much trust the staff they
