In both organisations, the target audience are the children, focusing on
discovery of own talents and passion. One important similarity is the duty of
care in which both schools and KidZania have to place the safety of the child
as their priority in the planning of activities. In addition, schools offer
various subjects while KidZania set up career stores known as
establishments for children to be exposed to as many experiences as
possible.
In schools, the academic curriculum is more or less fixed or decided by the
Ministry of Education while the non-academic curriculum can be decided by
the schools depending on the resources available. This is somewhat similar
to KidZania as they develop the curriculum based on the sponsorship or
partnership they have. However, one point to note is that, KidZania
depended largely on the types of partners they bring in for the kind of
experience that they can create for their customers where schools only tap
on external partnership to complement the curriculum in schools. Likewise
in schools, KidZania needs to determine the various needs of the children
and plan the need to engage the different target audience that range from
ages 4 to 17. While the academic curriculum is more or less fixed in the
schools, teachers will also need to plan for differentiated instruction to meet
the various learning needs of the students, not only that, schools will also
assess the needs of the students for various non-academic programmes and
plan the programme by collaborating with the external organisations.
In terms of physical setting in carrying out the establishments (curriculum),
the physical space in which every KidZania metropolis comes to life is a kid-
sized fabricated replica of a typical city. The city plan is one big environment
made up of many small environments replicating a thematic mix of industry
sectors. This is where the city comes to life. Role-play locations called
“establishments” dominate the mix that includes its own Hospital, Police
Station, Fire Station, Supermarket, Beauty Salon, Radio Station, Theater, just
to mention a few. In addition, visitors will find Food & Beverage,
Merchandising and Media dedicated locations, creating a broad offering of
urban environments, establishments and activities to enjoy the complete
KidZanian experience. In schools, we have many classrooms and special
rooms but in each classroom, the students learn many subjects rather than
just one content like KidZania.
