What surprises me most is that so many people only know about Bitcoin or think that Bitcoin is the only currency when discussing crypto . When I tell people about all the different coins that I am invested in they are shocked ! There are currently close to 7000 different cryptocurrencies on the crypto market . To new investors or learners of the digital currency market , this can be discouraging . To help out I have listed the top ten cryptocurrencies and a little history behind them .
BITCOIN ( BTC ) # 1 - The world ' s first cryptocurrency , created in 2009 by someone under the pseudonym “ Satoshi Nakamoto ”. As with most cryptocurrencies , BTC runs on a blockchain , or a ledger logging transactions distributed across a network of thousands of computers . Because additions to the distributed ledgers must be verified by solving a cryptographic puzzle , a process called proof of work ,
