In August 2014, Missy/Ink Magazine owner
Bella Rouge hosted the first annual
Alternative People’s Choice Awards. With
the intention of creating a much-needed
space for positive recognition to go to
the alternative arts community residing
in Canada, she streamlined the best into
categories after garnering the opinion
of the people they served. By leaving
the nominations in the hands of these
communities, Rouge ensured that she kept
her purpose clear – this was a recognition
of the people, by the people.
No stone was left unturned during the
search for talent. All subject matter was
considered, including alternative modeling,
photography, makeup artistry, tattoo artistry,
performance art, clothing design, jewellery,
and many other categories. The first round
of awards were so successful that there was
no doubt the following year’s would be
even bigger and better…
