Missy Ink Magazine Missy Ink Magazine - Fall 2015 - Censorship | Page 5

Letter from the Editor Y ou know what’s funny? Trying to put together a magazine around the topic of censorship because, ironically enough, we are still under publishing standards that designate us to be “safe.” We’re a magazine that doesn’t require each individual copy to be put in a plastic sleeve. “Safe.” It’s another word for the non-offensive, for those walking the straight and narrow, and for those that watch what you say. Be careful! You wouldn’t want to offend anyone by doing and saying the things that most people already do, which includes swearing, voicing opinions and expressing sexuality. Stop that! It’s not very ladylike. What will other people think? Having said that, the bold and intelligent women behind Missy/Ink have put together an issue of articles and editorials that push boundaries and unveil the existing contradictions, sexism and confusing moral standards that are still upheld in today’s society. Being censored and dictated on what we can and cannot do with our own bodies is an issue that women from all walks of life will continue to face. It’s our job to ask questions, to be whoever we want to be and to squash the gender norms that hold both men and women from moving forward. It may be bittersweet to say that I’m writing my last Letter from the Editor but I’m feeling very grateful. As a growing brand and company, it’s time for us to expand and bring in new, capable and bad ass women. Missy/Ink Magazine is undergoing some major changes for 2016, the first of which will be a new Editor-in-Chief who will be handling all things creative! Photo by Digital Fabrik Moving forward, there will be three issues of Missy/Ink per year focusing on the spring, summer and holiday seasons. The most exciting part of this change is that we will be going digital, which means that both a print and online version of the magazine will be readily available to you! We can’t think of a better way to spread the anti-Cosmo viewpoint! And while I’m handing over the creative reigns, I will still be around as Managing Director. Our new Editor-in-Chief insists on keeping our readers informed about my travels and adventures, so be prepared to see some fun, laid-back and intimate features from yours truly! Sincerely, Bella Rouge 5 Issue 18 | Missy/Ink
