NOTEWORTHY
• Missouri State hired Kellie Harper as its seventh women’s basketball coach
on April 10. Harper owns a 167-128 career record as a Division I head coach,
including five years at Western Carolina and four at North Carolina State,
coaching those teams to three NCAA Tournaments and four WNIT appearances. The former Kellie Jolly played on three national championship clubs
at Tennessee for the legendary Pat Summitt and earned honorable mention
all-America honors as a senior in 1999. Her staff at MSU includes her husband
Jon, Jennifer Sullivan, and Missouri State alum and NCAA all-time leading
scorer Jackie Stiles.
• The Lady Bears continued to rebound at an historic rate in 2012-13, leading
the MVC in rebounding margin at plus-4.7 and averaging 44.3 boards per
game for the league’s highest mark since 1987. Missouri State’s last three
seasons have each resulted in total rebound totals that rank among the top
six seasons in conference history.
• Senior guard Karly Buer set the school record for free throw percentage last
season at .907 (49-54), and now owns the No. 1 and No. 7 season marks
in MSU history, adding a .881 (74-84) figure her sophomore season. Buer
ranks seventh on the career list, making 84.7 percent of her foul shots.
• Missouri State returns a pair of sophomores that played significant roles a
year ago. Tyonna Snow and Kenzie Williams each ranked among the MVC’s
top six players in steals per game in 2013, with Snow averaging 2.4 thefts
and Williams close behind at 1.9. Williams averaged 11.9 points and tallied 351 total points as the No. 9 freshman scorer in school history. Snow
ranked 14th in that category with 264 points, and posted the Nos. 4 and 7
single-game steal totals at Missouri State, including eight in her career debut
against Oklahoma State.
