MVC 2013 Women’s Basketball Post-Season Notes
RPI/STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
In 2012-13, the MVC was 10th among 33 Division
I conferences in the RPI (Collegiate Basketball
News). Creighton (34), Wichita State (59) and Illinois State (71) were the top three MVC teams.
The Valley was also ninth in Strength of Schedule,
marking just the sixth time since 1992 that the
MVC had both RPI and Strength of Schedule at or
under 10 in the same season.
TWO TEAMS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
For the 10th time in league history, and the first
time since 2002, the Missouri Valley Conference
earned two bids to the NCAA Women’s Basketball
Tournament. Wichita State, which earned the
Valley’s automatic bid after winning its first-ever
tournement title, was joined by Creighton, which
earned an at-large selection for the second time
in program history (1994).
WE GOT A VICTORY, TOO
Not only did the Valley have two teams in the NCAA
Tournament field, the league also recorded its
first NCAA Tournament victory since 2002, when
Creighton held off Syracuse, 61-56, in the NCAA
First Round.
BID-WORTHY LEAGUE
The Valley earned five total postseason bids (2
NCAA, 3 WNIT), marking the fifth time that the
Missouri Valley Conference earned at least five
post-season bids.
TITLE TOWN
The league has had nine different regular-season
champions in the past 10 seasons (MSU-2004,
MSU-2005, INS-2006, SIU-2007, DU/UE/ILS2008, ILS-2009, ILS-2010, UNI-2011, MSU-2012,
CU/WSU-2013).
