NIT Success by Missouri Valley Teams
The Valley owns seven NIT titles -- Saint Louis (1948),
Bradley (1957, 1960, 1964, 1982), Tulsa (1981), and Wichita state (2011). Four -- Missouri State (1993 and 2006),
Bradley (1994) and Illinois State (1996) -- have recently
advanced to the quarterfinals.
1992 (1) - Southern Illinois loses at Boston College, 78-69.
1993 (1) - MSU advances to the quarterfinals, before being eliminated at Alabama-Birmingham. MSU
defeated St. Joseph’s, 56-34, at home, and then
won at Jackson State, 70-52. The Bears lost at
UAB, 61-52.
1994 (1) - Bradley advances to the quarters, before being
eliminated at Siena. Bradley defeated Murray
State, 66-58, at home and then beat Old Dominion, 79-75, in Peoria. The Braves lost at Albany,
N.Y., to Siena, 75-62.
1995 (2) - Bradley and Illinois State advanced to the second
round, before being eliminated. Bradley edged
Eastern Michigan, 86-85 (in double overtime) in
Peoria, but lost at home to Canisius, 55-53. Illinois State won at Utah State, 93-87 (in overtime), but lost at home to Washington St., 83-80.
1996 (1) - Illinois State advances to the quarterfinals, before
being eliminated at Tulane. ISU beat Mount St.
Mary’s, 73-49, at home and then won at Wisconsin, 77-62, before losing at Tulane, 83-72.
