Drake earns the league’s only berth and receives a
#5 seed. It marks the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Bulldogs since 1971. Drake falls to
#12-seeded Western Kentucky on a 30-foot shot as
time expired in overtime, 101-99 (Record: 0-1)
UNI earns a #12 seed and battles fifth-seeded
Purdue until the end, losing 61-56, in Portland, Ore.
(Record: 0-1)
UNI edged UNLV in the first round, 69-66, and then
became just the fourth #9 seed to beat a #1-seeded
team in the history of the tournament, edging #1
overall seed Kansas, 69-67. The Panthers lost to
Michigan State in the Sweet 16. (Record: 2-1)
Indiana State, a #14 seed, represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament and played #3-seeded
Syracuse in a first-round game in Cleveland, Ohio.
Syracuse won, 77-60. (Record: 0-1)
Creighton, seeded #8, won a first-round game
against Alabama, 58-57, and then lost to #1-seeded
North Carolina, 87-73, in Greensboro, N.C. Wichita
State received a #5 seed and fell to VCU in the first
round, 62-59, in Portland, Ore. (Creighton: 1-1;
Wichita State: 0-1; Overall Record: 1-2)
Creighton, seeded #7, split a pair of games as the
Bluejays beat Cincinnati, 67-63, and then fell to #2
seed Duke, 66-50, in Philadelphia. Wichita State
received a #9 seed and reached the Final Four in
Atlanta with wins over Pittsburgh, 73-55; #1 seeded
Gonzaga, 76-70; LaSalle, 72-58; and #2 seed
Ohio State, 70-66. The Shockers fell to its second
#1-seeded opponent, Louisville, 72-68 (Creighton:
1-1; Wichita State: 4-1; Overall Record: 5-2)
