ometimes, in your life, things happen that you can’t control, but
seeing things happening to your
loved ones, can make you feel so
weak. Maria lost her husband Carlos not long after they got married. This is her
story.
MEETING AT A FESTIVAL
Carlos and I met during a festival called Las
Fallas, thanks to mutual friends. From the moment he shook my hand and I looked Carlos
into his eyes, I knew. Somehow I knew that
we were going to have many adventures together, maybe it was the way he shook my
hand, or the way my name rolled over his tongue, how it seemed to belong there. It took
Carlos a month to ask me out, not that I was
counting or anything. It was the cutest thing
ever, the way he even had trouble getting
“Maria” out, which was more like “M-M-Mari-a” and then in a rush of breath: “Willyougooutwithmeplease?” Of course I said yes, I
mean how could anybody not?
THE FIRST BREAK UP
We started dating for a while, and it was going
great. My stuff slowly moved over to his slightly bigger apartment that was conveniently
closer to my work than my apartment was,
well that was the reason I gave him when I
had spent another week at his place. Carlos
would nod and smile, saying he understood,
but his smile would turn into the biggest shit
eating grin so I knew he was onto me. We broke up not much later after that, or I broke up
