ebruary – This is the
month of celebrations! At
the top of the list is Black
History Month which originated in 1926 by Carter Godwin
Woodson as Negro History
Week. The month of February
was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham
Lincoln, who were both born in
that month.
This is the month set aside to
reflect on our heritage and our
monumental contributions to
society. Our pride in Black
America is highly accentuated
all month long. This does not
mean that we should narrow our
reflections and pride to 28 days
of the year. Of course not! We
all know that we must be proud
of our heritage and acknowledge our accomplishments 365
days of the year and since this
year is Leap Year, we actually
have 366 days to be proud! Do
you know your history? take
our Black History Quiz!
And speaking of Leap Year, we
are in it in 2016. Happy Birthday to all those born on February 29th in years past. You have
waited 4 years to celebrate, so
go get your party on!

Another celebration this month
is Valentine’s Day- The origin of
Valentine’s Day is obscure with
many legends and myths surrounding it. But most scholars
believe that it started in ancient
Rome as a pagan holiday and
continued to evolve to what it is
today.
On this day we expect flowers,
candy, red hearts and romance
from our Boo and most guys
will step up to the plate and deliver!
But again, keep in mind that
while most guys won’t be “Valentine – like” every day, they
should treat you like the Queen
you are 365 (366 this year) days
a year!
