While it can be exciting to uproot and venture to a new town or community, the experience is almost always expensive, time-consuming, and frustrating. Michigan can also present its own special set of challenges with the undertaking. However, there are a few (often overlooked) moving tips that can help anyone cut their relocation costs and mitigate some of the other pain points associated with the process. There are also some specific considerations for anyone that’s planning to move within the great state of Michigan – or for those who may be moving to Michigan for the first time. MOVING STRATEGY TIPS If you’re still in the planning stages of your move and you’re considering using a full-service moving company, you should always consider moving at the beginning of the month. Never beg a mover to squeeze you into his schedule on the last Saturday in July. That’s when his schedule is most full and “squeezing you in” might actually mean you’ll be getting his least trained crew, exhausted from 4 moves before yours, showing up 3 hours late. You don’t want that. If the beginning of the month isn’t good for you, try moving when it’s best for the moving company. This may seem counterintuitive. After all, you are paying for their service, right? But if you want their best crew giving your move their full attention, you need to be flexible. So when you call to set up a start time, and your mover says something like, “Well, yes I can have a crew there Thursday at 2pm...but it would be better if we could do Friday at 8am,” then jump on the 8am spot to get the best crew and avoid delays. For those that prefer to let the Worldwide Web coordinate their move, there are a number of online brokers like Moveline and Unpakt that can help you book a full-service move. They can coordinate all aspects of your move if you’re too busy to do it yourself.
