How would you describe What was the first?
your art style? Umm... it was a photograph – I take pictures to
Well its loads of abstract expressionism, a little
bit of portraiture and sometimes its impressionist
as well. So a bit of everything; impressionism,
abstract and portraits. I basically paint from,
obviously how I feel, current affairs, what’s
happening most times. From what I see and feel
around me.
by the way, forgot to put that in there – but it
was a photograph. But the first painting I sold
was a random one I did and it was of like loads
of flowers and then someone saw it and liked
it and they just decided to pay for it and I was
like...okay. It felt good to know that people still
genuinely collect and appreciate stuff like this.
It looks like you use a lot What is your most
of different mediums? valuable tool?
What’s your favourite? I work a lot with my hands, I know it sounds
Charcoal and gauche. I’ve been trying to like
find my style a lot more lately because people
usually think like, oh yeah its easy for you to
just decide. I sculpt, I paint, I draw I kind of do
everything, all of that so I’ve been exploring
and experimenting to see which one I’m most
comfortable with.
really obvious, but like literally, I like to get my
hands dirty and I like to get the marks all out
because I feel like sometimes a brush, or a tool
restricts me personally, that’s why I do a lot of
handwork. I work with sponges as well and I like
to work with straight edges. So like a ruler or a
piece of plastic or a hard piece of card. It’s weird
but, it works for me.
Have you sold anything?
Yeah, I did Saatchi gallery when I was seventeen
and then I started to focus more into it, because
it’s a profession for me. So I’ve been selling for
like six years now.
Does art imitate life, or
does life imitate art?
I think art imitates life. I say so because without
what’s happening and without your being
existing, not to get too deep, you can’t create.
That’s it.
