Technology and innovation Goscor Earth Moving (GEM), part of the Goscor Group, has launched a new f ront-end loader. The SYL956H1 loader has a bucket capacity of 2.7–4.5m3, which means it can be used in heavy-duty mining operations. According to Andre Steenkamp, sales director at GEM, the highly efficient drive system features a rotary automatic gearbox that boosts travel speed by 10% and increases towing force by over 6%. “The rated load is 5 000kg, rated power is 162kW, and the maximum lifting force is 172kN,” says Steenkamp. Steenkamp adds that the high- pressure fixed variable confluence hydraulic system ramps up operating efficiency by over 12%, while total fuel consumption is slashed by more than 15%. According to Barr y O wen, managing director at GEM, mining is recovering, and “while the South Af rican economy has been continuously weak for years, it should come to the point where it bounces back a little.” [46] MINING MIRROR FEBRUARY 2018 Robust excavator launched Dura Equipment Sales has been appointed to distribute a new excavator in South Africa. The Lovol FR220 will compete in the highly contested medium- sized excavator category, where its high production unde rpinnings will see it compete head-to-head with premium brand machines. “Its price tag, however, is very affordable,” says Ernest Human, sales marketing manager at Dura Equipment Sales. The Lovol excavators are made in Japan and assembled in China. According to Human, the machine’s frame, metal, and main underpinnings are reliable and it hosts a six-cylinder Isuzu motor, which is affordable and fuel efficient. “Another advantage is that in its standard guise, the Lovol machine is supplied as a full mining specification machine that meets all safety and performance requirements. It is also hydraulically ready to accept any attachments such as hammers and drills,” Human concludes. Loader makes its presence felt
