INDEX & DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
M ISSION S TATEMENT
Mini University aims to shape the lives of children and youth
through a variety of social, recreational, and educational
activities and experiences of the highest quality.
By offering a safe, accessible and caring learning environment,
Mini University strives to foster social and skill development,
respect for cultural diversity, increased self-esteem and the
development of leadership skills in both staff and participants.
DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Brandon University’s Mini University has
accomplished a lot in our 30 years of
hands-on summer camp programming
for children and youth ages 5 to 15. We
have grown from only 200 participants
per year to over 1,000, and from four
weeks of camp to eight weeks. An amazing 16,000+ campers
have attended Mini U since its inception.
As a cost recovery, not-for-profit program, Mini U would not
be where it is today without the generous financial support
from our provincial, federal and private funders, as well as
local businesses and advertisers. Said funding has helped
sponsor more than 2000 Aboriginal, Metis and low-income
youth from all over Manitoba to attend camp, many of whom
have been inspired to complete their high school education and
go on to post-secondary studies.
Our success has also depended on the creativity, passion, and
enthusiasm of the more than 700 post-secondary instructors
and staff who found meaningful summer employment and
training with Mini U. In addition, the support of Brandon
University’s faculty and staff in providing space, equipment
and expertise has helped us to provide our quality programming.
Of all Mini U’s accomplishments, I am most proud of both the
sheer number of choices we offer in our unique multi-disciplinary
camp program, and our hands-on, interactive content.
It has been a pleasure to have shaped the direction of this valuable
program, and to continue to shape Mini U’s future. I believe that
this is a truly worthwhile experience for children and youth, and
I welcome all of our new and returning participants.
