Safety Management, among PMC's top priorities
Philex Mining Corporation (PMC)
takes workplace safety
management seriously. Among
the organization’s major programs
in 2014, strengthening its safety
standards is the first priority. In the
Kapihan held in January 2014,
President and CEO Euls Austin Jr.
stressed the importance of safety
management. He emphasized
that, to ensure an accident-free
workplace, safety should be
everyone’s accountability. This
statement applies to every corner
of the organization and is most
significant to high risk work sites,
like the mine and mill.
According to Safety Manager
Jun Leon Monterola, in Padcal,
the goal is to bring the number of
injuries down to zero. His team, the
Safety Committee, is intently
working on initiatives that aim
to make safety a way of life in
Operations and the community
in the site. To promote a culture
of safety, Engr. Monterola follows
their safety management
framework: educate, establish,
incentivize, and enforce.
“We need to educate our
people—not just our employees,
but their families as well,” Engr.
Monterola said. “Safety should be
reinforced in the households. That
is why we promote it even among
their wives and their children in
