Willpower at the holidays.
Eat, drink and be merry, for it's the most wonderful time of year!
Yes, the holidays may represent a merry mood to most, but not necessarily to
all.
For some, the holidays bring about a period of intense desperation.
Sometimes those who struggle cannot resist the temptation to steal because
there is not enough money for gifts. Sometimes loneliness and lack of support
can turn hurt into anger and reactivity. There are many reasons why the
holidays can be a tumultuous time of they year for many people. At stressful
times, people may act in ways that they may not ordinarily, and you don't
want to be on the receiving end of criminal behavior.
It is especially important to remember that while many of us will celebrate the
holidays to come, there are very many others who have little to celebrate and
even less to loose. That contrast in realities can be a dangerous mix. As
holidays can be a time of distraction from our regular routines, we must
concentrate and access our willpower to remain vigilant and situationally
aware.
In the Willpower issue , we will take a look at what it takes to create, practice
and maintain good personal habits during the holiday season. We will also
talk about kindness, hope, the power of the mind and attitude.
With the holidays right around the corner, there is no time like the present to
pre-think our own safety while planning our celebratory events. The criminals
are planning theirs.
Oh, and by the way, we didn’t forget to include some tips on keeping our own
willpower from melting away with all the goodies that will be a part of the
festivities! Visit our “Ask The Trainer” column for some dieting tips and
check out our recipe pages for great recipes to try on your own.
Happy holidays from the team at Mindset Self-Defense. We wish you all a
beautiful holiday season, and don’t forget to leave a few cookies for Santa!
