and Drug Administration (FDA)
for active immunization against
the smallpox disease.
“Emergent applauds the U.S.
government’s continued focus on
national security demonstrated
through its long-term stockpiling
strategy, which ensures a sustainable
supply of critical medical counter-
measures such as ACAM2000
vaccine, and its investment in a
stable domestic manufacturing
infrastructure to help protect the
U.S. population against smallpox
in the event of an attack,” said
Robert G. Kramer Sr., president
and chief executive officer of
Emergent BioSolutions. “This
contract solidifies our role as a
solutions provider supporting the
government’s smallpox preparedness
efforts and helping fulfill their
needs with our smallpox franchise.
It is one of the unique ways we
live out our mission — to protect
and enhance life.”
According to the company
release, the contract for ACAM2000

In order to support the
improvement of Michigan’s roads,
infrastructure and economic
competitiveness, MMA joined
the Build It Michigan Strong
legislative coalition, a group of
leading business and labor leaders
supporting Senate Bill 431, which
creates a state-wide regulatory
framework for aggregate mining.
“We support SB 431 because
it will replace a patchwork of
uncertain and differing approval
processes with a reasonable, evenly
applied standard that helps
strengthen our economy and
encourages employers to grow
their presence right here in
Michigan,” said Chuck Hadden,
MMA president & CEO.
This coalition backs a modern-
ization of the PA 113 aggregate
mining permitting process as
sponsored by Senator Adam Hollier
(D-Detroit). The coalition brings
together an unprecedented pairing of
business and local groups dedicated
to rebuilding and growing Michigan’s
economy — without wasting
taxpayer dollars.
