Tremendous progress has been made in recent years to streamline , stabilize and properly balance Michigan ’ s employment and workforce regulations . To continue the manufacturing-led economic recovery , we must defend these important policy advances .
Join the MMA Employment and Workforce Policy Committee and take a leadership role in designing a more competitive Michigan .
MMA ’ s Employment and Workforce Policy Committee meets as needed throughout the year and engages in regular communication with Delaney McKinley , MMA director of human resource policy and your association ’ s lead advocate on employer issues .
“ The Committee discusses policies , regulations and legislation that have a tremendous influence on how your company competes in Michigan , across the country and around the world ,” says McKinley .
Recent issues receiving the
Committee ’ s attention include :
• Growing concerns surrounding the state ’ s Unemployment Insurance Agency
MMA created a Special Task Force on Michigan Unemployment to look deeper at unemployment issues , such as identity theft and employer non-compliance determinations , and identify solutions to improve Michigan law and agency operations

“ Manufacturers work hard to create safe workplaces with opportunities for all . In order to succeed in a global economy , employment regulations must be balanced , practical and fair .

— Brian Pickelman , HR director , Winn-based Morbark , LLC ”

• Changes to how employers must record and report injuries and illnesses to MIOSHA
• Multiple efforts at the state level to mandate paid leave practices
• Challenges employers face with state training programs such as the Michigan New Jobs Training Program

“ Employers actively engaged with the Committee become part of the front line defending a competitive manufacturing industry ,” says McKinley . “ Committee members are the first to be informed on critical issues which will impact their bottom line and their ability to do business .” Are you ready to defend the fundamental rights of employers in the workplace ?
