Elections matter , especially to manufacturers in Michigan looking for pro-manufacturing legislative policies . With so much at stake , MMA is actively engaging at every level of state government and in every step of the election process .
Primary Election Candidate Endorsements
Five hundred and sixty five candidates are competing in the State Primary Election on Tuesday , 8 / 2 / 22 , for an opportunity to run under their respective party ’ s designation in the November General Election . After an extensive process of evaluating candidates ’ policy positions , vote records , experience and race analysis , MMA has identified 100 as worthy of an endorsement as a pro-manufacturing candidate .
We encourage all manufacturers to review our endorsements for candidates in your area and share your views with your administrative decision-making level employees to make sure manufacturing hits at its appropriate political weight . As the largest sector of the Michigan economy , we need to make our voice heard .
MMA-Supported Term Limit Reform Proposal Headed to November Ballot
A proposed constitutional amendment on the Tuesday , 11 / 8 / 22 , General Election ballot would reform Michigan ’ s legislative term limits . MMA believes the proposal will support a strong business climate through more steady policy and longer vision by fostering greater experience and knowledge among policymakers .
Current law constrains policymakers to six years in the House of Representatives and eight years in the Senate . The new proposal would expand the maximum legislative term of office to 12 years total in either chamber . The proposal also imposes financial transparency requirements on legislators .
The proposal would maintain the state ’ s limit on lawmaker tenure but modify the allowable length of service to enable elected officials to build greater experience and increase their effectiveness .

MMA believes that the changes in this proposal will increase proficiency and stability while maintaining the very concept of term limits to avoid “ lifetime ” elected officials . 6
