Named as GM Global
Suppliers of the Year
More than 100 manufacturers
from around the world were
recognized this summer by General
Motors as Suppliers of the Year
for 2019. The coveted Supplier of
the Year award honors GM supply
chain partners for going above
and beyond GM’s requirements,
providing customers with the
most innovative technologies and
delivering quality vehicles.
“We hold our suppliers to a
high bar,” said Steve Kiefer, GM
senior vice president for global
purchasing and supply chain. “They
went above and beyond to deliver
the innovations and quality that will
help us earn customers for life.”
MMA member companies
receiving General Motors’ Supplier
of the Year award include American
Axle & Manufacturing, Brose
North America, DENSO
International America Inc.,
ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants,
Gallagher-Kaiser Corporation,
Gentex Corporation, Lawrence
Plastics LLC, Lear Corporation
and Magna Powertrain USA.
BorgWarner, another MMA
member company, was recognized
with the GM Innovation Award for
creating the dual volute turbocharger
used in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado
and GMC Sierra. This new
turbocharger delivers best-in-
class response time when
accelerating from low speed.
Lear Corp. was also honored
with the GM Overdrive Award
which recognizes supply partners
for extraordinary leadership in
cultural change and commitment
initiatives that drive exceptional
business results for GM.

were chosen by a global team of
GM purchasing, engineering,
quality, manufacturing and logistics
executives. Winners were selected
based on performance criteria in
Product Purchasing, Global
Purchasing and Manufacturing
Services, Customer Care and
Aftersales, and Logistics.
Energy Efficiency
Rebates for Small
Manufacturers
The Michigan Energy Office
(MEO) is offering rebates to small
manufacturers to implement
energy efficiency activities for
completion between 10/1/19 and
7/31/20. The maximum rebate
award is $15,000 per company,
with a minimum 100 percent
match requirement. Rebate
application is intended to be
straight-forward through a simple
online application.

Spartan Motors Advances
Commitment to U.S.
Manufacturing with
Launch of Detroit
Truck Manufacturing
Spartan Motors, Inc., the
North American leader in
specialty vehicle manufacturing
and assembly for the commercial
and retail vehicle industries
announced this summer the launch
of Detroit Truck Manufacturing
(DTM), a captive channel supplier
of fabricated aluminum cabs for
Spartan’s fire trucks, as well as its
cab and chassis product it supplies
to over 40 OEM fire truck
manufacturers.
“I am very pleased to announce
the launch of Detroit Truck
Manufacturing. In addition to
producing cabs designed for final
stage manufacturing, this initiative
further protects Spartan from
potential supplier disruptions in
our changing economic climate,”
said Daryl Adams, president and
CEO for Spartan Motors.
DTM will enable Spartan to
achieve greater flexibility through
further insulating the organization
from risk in its broader supply
base, optimizing its cost structure
and quality control efforts.
