Stay in the Loop on Unemployment
System Reforms
Employers pay billions of dollars
into Michigan’s unemployment insurance
system each year but the system remains
plagued with inefficiency, errors and
scandal. Fraud, identity theft and other
issues affect everyone and these problems
can cost you dearly — in terms of time
and money.
MMA has heard numerous complaints
from member companies and is working
on your behalf to improve Unemployment
Insurance Agency (UIA) processes,
including legislative reform to address
manufacturers’ most frustrating concerns.
During 2017, we have been working
with the UIA and other unemployment
insurance stakeholders as part of the
House Oversight Committee UIA
Workgroup on the critical issues
facing your company.
Virtually all employers — both public
and private — can be impacted by
instances of identity theft, fraud, poor
communication and other systemic
failures of Michigan’s UI system.
MMA invites all member companies
to participate in MMA’s Special Task
Force on Michigan Unemployment.
Don’t worry — you’re not too late!
Formed in February, MMA’s Special
Task Force on Michigan Unemployment
has brought together manufacturing
executives and staff to identify the full
scope of your unemployment concerns
and develop recommendations for
legislative solutions to address these
potentially costly problems. The group
has meet in person and via conference
call and receives regular electronic
updates from MMA Government
Affairs staff.
Employers pay 100 percent of
Michigan’s unemployment system;
they should be able to expect an
efficient and reliable unemployment
insurance system. MMA is working
to make sure your unemployment tax
dollars are being spent effectively.
Contact MMA’s Delaney McKinley,
director of human resource policy and
membership development, at 517-487-
8530 or [email protected], to be
added to the Task Force mailing list for
all future meetings, conference calls and
issue updates.
