John Herrera returns to the

London catwalk

Award-winning fashion designer, John Herrera returned to Fashion Scout to present his spring/summer 2018 Collection, Armada.

The esteemed designer previously held a presentation for his AW17 collection in February; however, this was the first time that he showcased his collection via the catwalk, working with the team at L’OFFICIEL Manila.

For a second time, John Herrera teamed up with global printing giant, Epson Philippines to create 30 digitally-printed, ready-to-wear pieces that teeter on haute couture. Inspired by the accidental discovery of the Philippine Islands by the Spanish; Diogo Ribiero's World Map from 1529 set the pace for spring/summer 2018’s prints and the linear fabric manipulation techniques.

John Herrera was able to render parts of Ribiero’s medieval map on opaque and translucent fabrics. The combination of sheer and stiff materials with soft fabrics has created new silhouettes, which John Herrera hopes gives the impression of sailing to new worlds.

John Herrera launched his brand in London two years ago when he was chosen to participate in the British Council and British Fashion Council's International Fashion Showcase. That same year he went on to win at the London Emerging Designer Awards at Somerset House, and showed his winning collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo. Earlier this year, with his Agila collection for autumn/winter 2017, he won Britain’s Top Designer.

John Herrera has become a national celebrity in the Philippines and continues to produce his collections in his hometown, where he employs women from challenged upbringings and communities. He is fascinated by origami and is inspired by his country's rich and historic past.

Famed model and singer, Jessica Yang opened the show and top press were joined by a host of celebrities and influencers on the front row at John Herrera including Daisy de Villeneuve, Laura Pradelska, Olivia Cox, Naomi Isted, Samuel Bensoussan, Charlie Mills, Elyar, Thomas Falkenstedt, Sam Callahan, Ian Thomas, Benedikte St. Pierre, Annaliese Dayes, The Scheme's Kris James and Cheryl Chan.
