Cyber World Tech World..... When music meets AI

SO how did music meet AI? How did AI finish this Unfinished Symphony? Using a powerful combination of human expertise and AI, Huawei taught its Mate 20 Pro smartphone to compose the remainder of the third, and a complete new fourth movement of Schubert's Symphony No8

This is the first time that a smartphone's AI has been used to complete a piece of music in the style of the original composer.

This was done by running an Artificial Intelligence model that benefitted directly from the processor power of the dual NPU ( Neural Processing Unit) i the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It analyzed the timbre, pitch and meter of the existing first and second movements of the symphony, and then generated the melody for the missing music.

They then combined the power of AI with human expertise, enlisting the help of Emmy award-winning composer Lucas Cantor. Cantor chose selected melodies from those produced by the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and arranged an orchestral score that stayed true to the style of Schubert's Symphony No8

This ending to the symphony is totally unique, because it unites the power of the smartphone's AI with the expertise of Lucas , to truly push the boundaries of what is humanly possible.

Lucas Cantor said " I think AI can only be helpful, it's like having a collaborator sitting right next to you that never gets tired, who never runs out of ideas, who never has an attitude of any kind, it's there to work and it's there to help. I think if Schubert had our technology, he would have definitely finished the Symphony. The smartphone didn't give me finished outputs, but

it did give me melodic ideas, and once I sorted through them, I realized they were quite beautiful melodic ideas"

The 66 piece English Session Orchestra, which comprises some of the finest session musicians in the industry and is often featured in motion picture film scores, television, video games and production music, did an incredible job during the 48 minute performance.

The setting... a beautiful lit up Cadogan Hall in London filled with 500 selected guests from around Europe including media, influencers, and celebrities from the entertainment industry.

I had the pleasure of attending this exclusive music performance, to experience first-hand how amazing things can be when technology and humans work together, sharing intelligence to make the impossible, possible.

February 4th was the reveal by Huawei of Schubert's completed Unfinished Symphony No8, powered by AI.

The event was hosted by classical musician Myleene Klass and was brought to life by the English Session Orchestra

" At Huawei, we are always searching for how technology can make the world a better place. Last year we taught our AI to drive a car, translate Humpback whales' "love songs" into a piece of music, and used it to open up the world of books to deaf children through our StorySign project. Now, for the first time , we are proud to unveil our latest creative collaboration" Walter Ji, Huawei's President of Consumer Business Group, Western Europe
