I would really like to have some aesthetics done for my 50th birthday. But I am nervous about it and want to speak to a few doctors. Some want to charge me just for the consultation and one I saw actually was not an expert at all, just a glorified saleswoman who tried to sell me an expensive package. Should I have to pay for a consultation and have to put up with unqualified people giving me advice?

Tara Mansfield, Kent

Some cosmetic or aesthetic doctors charge a consultation fee to hold the appointment and to make sure you are a serious client but this often, although not always, deducted from the cost of the treatment you receive if you go ahead.

Many practices do have people who can give you an outline of what treatments are on offer and tell you about the after care or pre care.

However, they should never sell you treatments and only the doctor can decide the best course of action for you. At Vie we have a great after care team and our staff are very knowledgeable so can answer most questions. In the end, though, it is our doctor who works with you to get the results you want. We do not charge for consultations.

My husband is a hunk but his underarm sweat can be a bit of turn off. It is also unsightly for him at work. He uses strong deodorant but is there anything else that can be done?

Underarm Botox is very popular with both male and female clients to stop sweat in the summer months

With Ascot coming up, and the wedding season, it is a godsend to women wearing fabulous dresses. For men, too, it can last up to three months and stop that embarrassing wet underarm patch that so often ruins a shirt. It is simple and easy to do and results start to kick in within a week or so.

''Botox is an effective way to deal with teeth grinding. It works by relaxing the muscles in the mouth that are in charge of chewing and teeth grinding. Most patients see a complete resolution of their symptoms within a few days or weeks and the results can last for several months and occasionally up to six months.''
