Explain how you manufacture your designs – do you outsource it?

I work with craftspeople in Scotland and a small studio in London to get the pieces knitted. They are then delivered to me in separate panels, i.e. fronts, backs and sleeves, and I then link the garments together and hand finish them at my studio.

How did you fund your business?

My business is self-funded with support from family. I work freelance as a knitwear consultant two or three days a week and the other days I am in my studio.

How do you market your business?

As a small business I really don’t have a big marketing budget. I use Instagram a lot as well as Facebook Ads. I get most sign ups to my mailing list through face to face selling though. I do pop up shops and sales events which means that I get to meet people and talk to them about my business.

Do you use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, etc., to promote your business? How successful has it been for you? Any advice on how businesses can use social media to promote themselves?

I only really use Instagram and Facebook. It’s been a mixed bag as everything is so saturated and I don’t always give it the time it needs to really be successful. I would say the best advice I have is to always try and start a conversation and interact with your followers.
