Considering the recent developments in electric engine technology, it's no surprise to hear Bentley's CEO talking about the expansion of electric energy within the marques model range. However, and somewhat interestingly, Dr. Wolfgang Dürheimer even highlighted the EXP 10 Speed 6, a new concept unveiled recently to enormous critical acclaim, as a model for which electric could be utilised. In fact, it’s “the best feedback we’ve ever had for a Bentley that’s gone to a production clinic,” he told Cnet at a recent Bentayga launch event. This should surely mean that the Speed 6 will be rolling off the production lines in the not too distant future to a list of eager purchasers.

A key concern of the introduction of an electric drive-train is whether the driving experience provided will be true to the marques characteristics. Dr. Dürheimer answered this concern by comparing the current noise level and torque characteristic of the Mulsanne's 6 ¾ ltr V8. “torque characteristic and the noise level you experience in a Mulsanne is very close to an electric car.” So we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

With development of the next generation Continental under way, it is likely that we will see an electric option offered, as will be the case with Bentayga. We should remember that Bentley shares some technology with Porsche now so development time-frames will be quicker. And if the Speed 6 is based on the foundations of the Continental, even with the hectic time-scales involved, it is possible the Speed 6 will see the showrooms around 2020. Adding this stunning model to the sector will leave the competition more than a little concerned and the dealerships rubbing their hands.
