Whilst Folk Art can sometimes be perceived as more accessible art for the masses, the feeding frenzy for Folk Art by collectors and interior designers to include it in their collections or high worth properties, has meant that it has an increasing value. Folk Art can be found in many countries, although many collectors, galleries and museums only focus on American or Mexican folk art, many amazing pieces can also be discovered in India or from across Eastern Europe.

I started looking into Folk Art after seeing lots of the influencers and interior designers post pictures of the amazing structural objects and art works they have bought. So not wanting to miss out, I went on a mission to find some pieces! Although initially I thought about having a few pottery pieces or a quaint artwork, instead I discovered a new passion for Folk Art furniture when I visited Modern Folk.

Modern Folk is a concept store on Tower Bridge Road, Bermondsey which showcases a collection of authentic, handmade folk-art furniture and artworks from across the globe. Owner Kitty Walsh told me: ‘Folk art has been a passion of mine for all of my life, and I am really excited to share these pieces with our customers. I love that each item is authentic and unique, that you can always see the hand of the craftsman or woman. For me, these works are a link to our shared past, to a time when people would know the origin of every object that they owned, and most probably the person who made it. These pieces are the ultimate antidote to today’s disposable culture – and they look great in contemporary homes!’
