Hector Finch followed his father into the antique trade, loved re-wiring and repairing things, started his first lighting company in Preston, Lancashire, in the 1980s. In 1991 he set up shop in Chiswick Lane, gained the confidence of exacting interior designers working on sumptuous projects, and then bravely opened the doors of his London showroom in Wandsworth Bridge Road, SW6 in 1995. His wife Emma joined the company in 2000.
It was a promising location for an interiors shop, on the borders of Kensington and Chelsea, an easy destination for architects and interior designers, and for private customers looking for ‘that accent piece’ or practical lighting handmade by artisans, for every room in the house. Lighting creates atmosphere, provides drama, tranquillity, along with technical precision, for working and reading. ‘Everyone shines, given the right lighting’ says Hector. ‘Good lighting is essential to a beautiful interior’.
