Who, or what, inspired you to become a hairdresser?

I’ve loved playing around with hair since childhood and created some unique styles on my dolls! I would always be the one that styled friends and family members’ hair for any parties or functions.

How did you start in the beauty business?

I got my first Saturday job at a local salon in North London at the age of 13. I enjoyed working in a salon and dealing with clients.

I then enrolled on an NVQ level 2 hairdressing course at my local college, which is when I was introduced to a high-profile Central London salon on a day-release. I loved the atmosphere of working in a top West End salon and eventually secured a full-time position there as trainee and have subsequently worked my way up to a Senior Stylist.

I also wanted to be able to train and supervise in hairdressing so I went on to complete the NVQ level 3 in hairdressing during my days off from work. I’ve now been working in the hairdressing industry for 30 years (makes me feel old now!) and have been specialising in hair extensions for around 16 years.

Tell us about your salon…

Luxurious, boutique salon focusing on quality over quantity with just 10 styling positions offering comfort and privacy for every client. The salon has been designed in such a way where the client feels at home and enjoys every moment of their visit to our salon. We treat our clients like royalty which is why we have a very loyal client base.

What challenges have you faced through your career?

Central London has always been very tough territory to break in to for any independent hair salon given the fierce competition. It was a very challenging time for us when we first opened back in 2005 but we managed to find our niche (hair extensions) and became a destination place for the best hair extensions in town which then resulted in all our services (colours, cuts, etc) becoming as popular as our hair extension services.

What is your top hair look this summer?

The done undone look is the one – effortless glamour!

Are there any hair trends that you get asked for in particular?

Balayage colour is one of our most popular services at the moment; the results give a much more natural look than block highlights and it is easier for the client to maintain.
