MOA - WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST LESSON LEARNED IN REGARD TO PERFORMING?

PM – We’ve had to learn how to be at ease when were on stage and not be a ‘character’. It so easy to go on stage and suddenly feel like being yourself isn’t enough and that you have to put on something to seem like a star. The more you are on stage the more you realize that when you’re more comfortable you start showing your true self and not ‘oh my gosh were Auburn Road’ (in a cartoon character voice the girls laugh at).

AP – People just want to see you.

PM – Exactly, they connect to you and not to the fake or the façade.

KB - They want to connect to your music and you as a person. Because if they cant connect to you as a person then your music isn’t going to seem real.

AP – People can tell when you’re comfortable. We have been through this many times. We start rushing when we talk on stage or stumbling over our words because we’re trying to say this exact line that we rehearsed in our head, and that’s when you really start over thinking it.

MOA – NOW AS WE LISTENED TO SOME OF THE DEMOS FOR YOUR NEXT RECORD THERE IS A SONG CALLED ‘MUSTANG’ THAT IS THE TITLE CUT. CAN YOU TELL THE STORY OF THAT SONG?

AP – My dad was adopted. And he found this letter and it basically described his mom - my grandmother and the way it described her was kind of like the type of women we were just talking about – she was this fearless, super- strong person. She was beautiful and a determined person and I thought that was really cool. Made me wish I could have met her. The song is basically about her and the kind of person she was but at the end of the song it turns into being about me. The fact that I have a lot of the same traits. And as we wrote the song I realized that we all took on the traits of our grandmothers.

KB – Yea, we all have strong women in our lives – our mothers and aunts or our grandmothers – and we all have bits and pieces of them inside of us and we love that. They are the strongest women we know and the fact that they are our examples and we can be like them is great. This song is honoring them in a way.

MOA - BECAUSE YOU HAD SONGS LIKE ‘TUFF GIRL’ ON YOUR DEBUT EP ‘FANCY’ IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS SONG IS PART OF A CONTINUUM FOR YOU. IS THAT SOMETHING THAT IS A PART OF THE AUBURN ROAD BRAND?

PM – I think so. When we talked about Auburn Road and who we want to be and what we want to do, it was always about empowering other young girls and women. Going into Country music it is needed. Young girls need to hear that it’s ok to be strong or be bossy or tough and not to be swayed by other people and be who you want to be and if that’s tough that’s ok too. It’s definitely apart of our brand.

MOA -I NOTICED THAT THE TRACK IS A LITTLE MORE TRADITIONAL SOUNDING THAN THE LAST RECORD. IT HAS FIDDLE AND BANJO AND ALL OF THESE OTHER ELEMENTS THAT ARE MORE TRADITIONAL COUNTRY. WHAT WAS THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS TO DO THAT?

KB – One thing that we’ve always talked about with our music is that we want to stay true to traditional Country while putting our take on it. So we were listening to songs by the Charlie Daniels Band’s ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia’ and other sort of ‘barn burner’ type songs and this one come out more on the traditional side. But when you hear it next to the other songs on our album it all evens out to where some of its modern and some of its that traditional country that you don’t really hear that often anymore.

MOA - I KNOW YOU’RE STILL IN THE STUDIO WRITING BUT WHAT OTHER SONGS DO YOU THINK ARE STAND OUTS THAT WE SHOULD BE LOOKING FORWARD TO?

PM – One my favorites is a song that we wrote called ‘Last Cry’. It’s another song that is a little traditional as far as the music but the lyric is a very relatable story. A lot of girls – and guys I guess have had a break up or something bad where you are crying about a situation every night because you’ve lost someone and as hard as you tried it didn’t work out. But you keep going back and asking yourself questions

KB – Well, that was the one I was thinking about... Auburn Road laughing

KB – We have another song that we are working on called ‘Civil War’ that we hope makes the record. It has a very rustic feel to it.
