Your online brand is now becoming a hugely important way to support your brand and reputation and help you to become known for what you’re great at.

Here are some tips on how you might use it for raising your brand visibility:

The do’s and don’ts of using social media

Note: Make sue you understand your company social media policy.

DO

Make sure your posts are interesting, authentic and in alignment with what you want to be known for.

Be active! Be regular and consistent with your posts.

Add keywords to your profile for SEO (what do you want to be known for?)

Frequently check and manage how you show up by entering your name into the main search engines. Are you visible enough? Untag yourself from any undesirable photos

DON'T

Rant, or badmouth others – don’t risk your reputation

Connect with just anybody – make sure you have met them or know of them and that they are adding to you positive brand online. Quality is better than quantity

Post anything that you would not want the CEO of your company to read!

LinkedIn

The Essentials

A professional and up-to-date head & shoulders photo. Your photo should let your personality shine through

Go to LinkedIn and look at others’ photos, taking note of which ones impress you and specifically why

Go to some royalty-free photo sites (istock.com) and type into the search engine ‘Business Portrait’ plus whatever gender you are. You’ll then see a whole host of head and shoulder shots of men or women, each with a slightly different feel. Run your eye over them and see which ones jump out at you – it’s often because they convey something you see in your own brand.

If possible, use a professional headshot photographer. It’s well worth the investment.

Be aware of the correct photo size to use – 400 x 400 pixels (minimum)

Make sure you have a complete profile.

A summary profile statement that gives an attractive window to the best ‘you’ and highlights your core skills and personality traits.
