Things like gift certificates to pet supply stores , name tags , collars and sturdy leashes are great gift ideas .
Other members of Alliance of Therapy Dogs shared some great gift ideas as well . Suggestions include placing a deposit on the dog owner ’ s account at their veterinarian or paying for a pet insurance plan with a company like Trupanion . Amazon gift cards , interactive dog toys and pet sitting or doggie day care gift certificates also made the list of suggestions .
Fi dog collars are a popular choice among dog lovers as they can easily track a dog ’ s location , activities and steps . And , a donation made in a dog ’ s name to a rescue or foundation can also be a thoughtful way to celebrate the season .
For owners , a safety vest to wear while they ’ re out walking the dog is a good choice , accompanied by a light-up safety collar for the dog .
Toys that don ’ t shred easily are a good idea for bigger dogs . Keim says she has also found that toys built around empty water bottles are a big hit with her own dogs .
Pet clothing , even with color coordination in mind , is also a good idea , Keim says .
“ That all can be done , and it can be done safely without spending a whole lot of money ,” she says .
Certificates for dog grooming and other necessities are also gifts she believes would be appreciated by both man and his best friend . And , at the end of the day , she says it ’ s never a bad idea to let the one who knows the dog best make the final decision .
